Thomas Tony Tuesdays – Gypsy

Marcus Gypsy

If I had the chance to go back in time to see one Broadway production that has passed me by, it would be the 2008 production of Gypsy.  I know…I know…it has only been a few years but the divine casting choices of Patti Lupone, Laura Benanti, Boyd Gaines, and Leigh Ann Larkin put this show above the others for me.

Featuring music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim (heard of him?), and a book by Arthur Laurents, Gypsy is a true masterpiece and a shining example of the musical form.  More

Thomas Tony Tuesdays – Matilda

Matilda: Sam S. Shubert Theatre

Definitely one of the most hyped shows of the season, the Matilda cast does not disappoint during the 2013 Tony Awards. Producing Notes – Who Will Love Me As I Am?

I was in New York for work when the flood hit Toronto. My flight home was delayed and I found myself with a spare ‘non-work’ night in the city. I quickly logged onto Telecharge (whose new website I hate, but that’s a different story) to see what I could get a last minute ticket to (yes… oddly on both work and non-work nights, I choose to see musicals, I just modify the type of musical I see), and I scored a seat for Kinky Boots. I was very excited. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical.
