Overview

One Song Glory is a fully subsidized five-weekend long intensive youth musical theatre training program that builds community, self-confidence, and self-expression through a combination of new music creation, masterclasses, rehearsal, and online presentations. Our goal is to offer participants a professional rehearsal experience, insight about the industry, the chance to engage with new works, and the guidance to develop a fruitful career in the performing arts.

Typically, this program is held in-person in Toronto. However, due to current restrictions on gathering, we have made the exciting decision to move this program entirely online. We are thrilled to grow our network of young performers and non-performing artists, giving students from across the country (who reside in remote, rural, and urban communities) access to fully subsidized training led by Canada’s leading musical artists.

We are proud to report that to date, over 850 young Canadians have completed ONE SONG GLORY, without any costs to the participants. Past participants are now gracing international stages and Canadian concert halls, including Broadway and The Stratford & Shaw Festivals.

*Submissions for our 2020 ONE SONG GLORY program are now closed.

In an effort to share the enriching qualities of the theatre with a wider cross-section of young people, we are actively seeking a balance of performing and non-performing artists (writers, visual artists, poets, designers, filmmakers, stage managers, and any non-performing discipline we may have missed).

We are actively seeking submissions from young people of all backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities as we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within this selection process.  We especially encourage folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, Gender Minorities, LGBTQ2S+, d/Deaf, Mad, Disabled/People with Disabilities, and/or Neurodiverse to submit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is One Song Glory being delivered this year?
Typically, this program is held in person in Toronto, however, due to current restrictions on gathering, we have made the exciting decision to move this program entirely online. We are thrilled to grow our network of young  performers and artists, giving students from across the country (who reside in remote, rural and urban communities) access to fully subsidized training led by Canada’s leading musical artists.

Is there a cost to the program?
No! The program is fully subsidized so that cost is not a barrier to participation.

What is the time commitment for this?
If selected, you will be required to attend all intensive sessions (see details on the Training Intensive tab).

What is the Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop?
The Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop is open to ALL artists between the ages of 13-19. This workshop aims to teach participants how to create a dynamic, compelling video, and how to express oneself as an artist through an audition or portfolio video. Six identical two-hour workshops are run over a two-day period. Registrants may sign up for one workshop.

Each workshop is comprised of two sections: a seminar and individual feedback. The first hour will be led by Deputy Artistic Director Ray Hogg, who will lead participants through a seminar on video creation for the purposes of general auditions. The second hour will place students in breakout groups, where they will connect with other participants, and with leading industry professionals who will give each of them specific, pointed feedback on the video that they submitted.

All artists must send in a video prior to the workshop, due on September 30, 2020. Feedback will be provided to the first 550 people to register for the Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop. Participants will then re-send their videos, applying the feedback they received, by Saturday October 10, 2020.

How do I register for the Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop?  What do I need to have prepared for the workshop?
Fill out this registration form here to register for the Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop! Then, send in your audition or portfolio video before September 30, 2020.

Who can be involved in One Song Glory?
100 youth between the ages of 13-19 nation-wide will come together online to train under the guidance of Canada’s top musical theatre professionals in a positive and encouraging environment. Participants will be invited to join the One Song Glory Training Intensive after the Audition & Portfolio Video Creation Workshop. In an effort to share the enriching qualities of the theatre with a wider cross-section of young people, we are actively seeking a balance of performing and non-performing artists (writers, visual artists, poets, designers, filmmakers, stage managers, and any non-performing discipline we may have missed). We are aiming to invite 65 performing artists, and 35 non-performing artists to the program.

When will One Song Glory take place?
The 100 artists invited to join the program will meet for every Saturday in November, and the first Saturday of December. The final presentation will premiere on Saturday December 12, 2020.

What kind of technology is required to participate in the program? What if I don’t have access to the required technology or have technological access needs?
Safe access to reliable Internet, a laptop/tablet/Internet-enabled device that is able to connect to Zoom, as well as wired headphones with a microphone attached, and a recording device!

We are currently exploring partnerships with Internet providers and service agencies across Canada to ensure that there are no technological barriers to participating. If you have any technological barriers to accessing the program, please indicate this on the registration form and we will be in touch!

Who will participants be learning from in the program?
Participants will be placed into cohorts of 8, under the guidance of a Canadian director, music director, composer, and designer. Masterclasses and lunch & learns will be with other top Canadian musical theatre professionals.

What will the final One Song Glory presentation look like?
In groups of 8, the participants will create a brand new musical theatre song and video presentation under the guidance of top Canadian directors, composers, music directors, and designers.
