Overview

One Song Glory is a fully subsidized five-weekend long intensive youth musical theatre training program that builds community, self-confidence, and self-expression through a combination of new music creation, masterclasses, rehearsal, and online presentations. Our goal is to offer participants a professional rehearsal experience, insight about the industry, the chance to engage with new works, and the guidance to develop a fruitful career in the performing arts.

Typically, this program is held in person in Toronto, however, due to current restrictions on gathering, we have made the exciting decision to move this program entirely online. We are thrilled to grow our network of young performers and artists, giving students from across the country (who reside in remote, rural, and urban communities) access to fully subsidized training led by Canada’s leading musical artists.

We are proud to report that to date, over 850 young Canadians have completed One Song Glory, without any costs to the participants. Past participants are now gracing international stages and Canadian concert halls including Broadway and The Stratford & Shaw Festivals.

Registration opens September 8, 2020!

100 youth between the ages of 13-19 nation-wide will come together online to train under the guidance of Canada’s top musical theatre professionals in a positive and encouraging environment.

In an effort to share the enriching qualities of the theatre with a wider cross-section of young people, we are actively seeking a balance of performing and non-performing artists (writers, visual artists, poets, designers, filmmakers, stage managers, and any non-performing discipline we may have missed).

We are actively seeking submissions from young people of all backgrounds, abilities, and ethnicities as we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within this selection process.  We especially encourage folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, Gender Minorities, LGBTQ2S+, d/Deaf, Mad, Disabled/People with Disabilities, and/or Neurodiverse to submit.

How to Participate:

1. Any young artist between the ages of 13-19 is invited to participate in our free online video creation workshop, and subsequently record and send us a video sample of their work.

2. From those videos, 100 performers and non-performing artists will be invited to join our free five-weekend training intensive.

3. In groups of 8, the participants will create a brand new musical theatre song and video presentation under the guidance of top Canadian Directors, Composers, and Designers.

Frequently asked questions

What is it?
One Song Glory is a unique program with a mandate to deliver absolutely FREE musical theatre training for the youth of Ontario. Participants will take master classes, participate in workshops, and train with professional directors and musical directors who work in the Toronto musical theatre scene to hone their skills. In addition, each student will get the chance to work on two musical theatre numbers that they will perform at two final showcase performances at Toronto Centre for the Arts.

Is there a cost to the program?
No! The program is fully subsidized so that cost is not a barrier to participation.

How do I get in?
All prospective participants must attend an audition workshop to be considered for the program. Auditionees will prepare 1 piece of music (preferably from the contemporary musical theatre canon) to be performed at the audition. An accompanist will be provided so please bring sheet music.

What is the time commitment for this?
If selected, you will be required to attend all intensive dates & both performance dates.

Who should I contact with further questions?
