Now in its 4th year, Make Me A Song is an innovative partnership between The Musical Stage Company and Regent Park School of Music. The program connects Regent Park School of Music’s choirs with two of Canada’s leading musical theatre writers. This year’s cohort is comprised of Julie Tepperman (Bookwriter) and Suzy Wilde (Composer/Lyricist).

Participants and writers collaborate weekly on the development of a 40-minute narrative oratorio based off the participants’ stories, which the choirs will then learn and perform at a major Toronto festival. By performing a narrative musical in concert, the participants foster musical, acting, and storytelling skills, and help to create and shape original Canadian musical works.

Since the inception of Make Me A Song, over 200 youth from Toronto’s priority neighborhoods have received free weekly choir lessons using a curriculum of songs created for the choir by The Musical Stage Company’s writers.

Regent Park School of Music

Regent Park School of Music is a non-profit community music school. They are here to give as many kids as possible a music education, by removing the financial obstacle.

This year, Regent Park School of Music (RPSM) is set to give 1,300 young people aged 3-18 a highly subsidized quality music education at our central hub in Daniels Spectrum in Regent Park and in satellite locations in Jane and Finch, Parkdale, Scarborough and other high-priority neighbourhoods in Toronto.

RPSM’s goal is to help kids succeed through music. For over 17 years they have seen that the study of music allows young people to flourish creatively, personally and academically…enriching their lives and future prospects.

Students have access to over 80 dedicated music teachers and an array of musical options and instruments. They study everything from classical piano and violin to turntablism and electronic music and perform all over the city.   Learn More
