CASTING CALL: AFTER THE RAIN

The Musical Stage Company & Tarragon Theatre will be holding auditions in Toronto on July 20 and 21  2024 for future workshops and production of AFTER THE RAIN.

Storyline  

Her parents are famous. Her boyfriend is stupid. And Suzie is a mess.  When she accepts a mature piano student obsessed with mastering only one song, Erik Satie’s “Gymnopedie No. 1”, struggling songwriter Suzie’s life takes an unforeseen turn. Full of family turmoil, life’s complexities, and centered around a devastating discovery, AFTER THE RAIN is a musical based on a true story about the healing power of music.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Please submit by filling out the Submission Form for consideration, no later than June 28, 2024.

Please follow the form’s instructions to:

  1. Indicate which role(s) you are interested in auditioning for;
  2. Upload your resume (PDF titled “[YOUR NAME] Resume”), 
  3. Upload your headshot (JPG or PDF titled “[YOUR NAME] Headshot”) and
  4. Include your list of instruments that you play & your level of proficiency for each instrument.

Due to the high volume of submissions, only successful applicants will be contacted to audition. Successful applicants may or may not be asked to read for all of the roles which they indicate interest in.

**While we are keen to have our world premiere cast participate in the developmental workshops, artists DO NOT need to be available for all of the above workshops in order to be considered for the Spring 2025 production**

Character Breakdown

We are looking for quick and adaptable performers who are able to bring the characters to life and help our writing team learn more about the piece as it develops. The ability to sing and play at least one musical instrument at an advanced/professional level is a must.  We welcome submissions from artists of all genders.

Excellent comedic timing, the ability to read music and to play multiple musical instruments is an asset.

The role of SUZIE EVANS STONE has been cast

JEAN STONE/DONNA D’ANGELO

Playing age: 40’s – 50’s, [Strong Rock belt, alto/mezzo-soprano]
Jean: Suzie’s mother, an impulsive and passionate musician
Donna: another mother, warm and curious

Must have excellent comedic timing and an ability to play piano
Ability to play rhythm guitar is a plus

ASHLEY EVANS/FRANK D’ANGELO

Playing age:  40’s – 50’s, [Rock vocals, baritone/ tenor]
Ashley: Suzie’s father, a besotted sidekick, proficient musician
Frank: Donna’s husband, shy and thoughtful

Must have excellent comedic timing and an ability to play guitar and/or bass

JULIAN D’ANGELO

Playing age 14-16,  [soft, gentle vocals, written for tenor OR alto]
Frank & Donna’s child, teenager, a lost soul

Must have excellent comedic timing and an ability to play guitar or ukulele

ENSEMBLE/THE BAND

In addition to the above roles, we are also seeking two ensemble members who play any combination of bass, drums, and guitar of any gender expression, any age, and all vocal types to play various characters (including the band). 

Strong musicianship is a must (advanced/professional proficiency on bass and/or drums).  Excellent singing, acting and some movement ability is a plus.
