An Update from Ray Hogg

Dear Friends,

I’m writing to you today with some bittersweet news. I’ve decided that on January 1, 2025 I will be stepping away from my duties as the Artistic Director of The Musical Stage Company. It’s been an incredible five years that included reimagining ways to bring music and theatre to locked down audiences during the pandemic, leading the reopening charge with three award-winning world premieres, and breaking Toronto attendance records during our much extended run of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812.

I’m so proud of the extraordinary art that this company creates as well as the investment we make in the artists who create it! Over my time at MSC, I’ve had the good fortune to mentor over 100 artists, support the commission and creation of nearly 20 new musicals, and alongside our extraordinary artistic staff devise new and innovative ways to support the development of new Canadian musicals from concept to premiere.

Today, The Musical Stage Company is in amazing shape and, with the support of our Board and our Co-Executive Directors Paul Beauchamp & Kate Supleve, I am confident that the organization is poised for continued success.

I am super excited to remain artistically linked to The Musical Stage Company as the director of the MSC/Soulpepper Theatre/Crow’s Theatre’s production of A STRANGE LOOP, as the choreographer for the Mirvish/Crow’s Theatre/MSC production of NATASHA, PIERRE & THE COMET OF 1812.

In due course, the Board of Directors will lead the way in recruiting a new Artistic Director for The Musical Stage Company and I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and inspired direction the organization is sure to take.

I am incredibly grateful to all of you for five years of support as we made terrific theatre together. I can’t wait to see you all soon to share more news about my next chapter as it unfolds!

Thanks, and all my very best,

Ray
